The Future Forum – Debate League

The Youth of the 21st Century – a phenomena, a wonder, a future cognizant. We as the future generation have amassed the attention of the international jury by our contributions across various fields, in different parts of the world and rightfully so.

They say, “words yield better than swords” and the youth have converted this quote from a hypothesis to a fact. Through debate we weave the past, present, and future to make a progressive advancement for tomorrow by voicing our opinions in our augmented reality.

The EcoGen Online Debate Competition, THE FUTURE FORUM, makes an extravagant return for the second time. It is a platform for students to share opinions, exchange perspectives and ideate environmental solutions to make a profound change in today’s world.

Students from Grades 9 to 12 can take part in this event.

AGENDA

As the COP28 event gets closer every passing day, we are beyond ecstatic to host this debate and resolve the dilemma, i.e., the agenda: “Should We Move to a Carless Future?”

The event will have 3 rounds:
Knockout, Empathize, and Finale.
The first two rounds will be conducted online while the Finale will take place onsite.

ROUND 1: KNOCKOUT
In this round, participants will be assigned a partner and a side to represent. They will then debate against a partner before a group of adjudicators. A winner will be chosen from the set. 50% of the total participants are expected to qualify for Round 2

ROUND 2: EMPATHIZE
In this format, teams have to identify stakeholders in relation to the motion at hand and provide arguments from the point of view of that stakeholder.

This round of the debate will be in a role-play format. The selected participants will be grouped into teams of 4.

All participants would be individually graded based on their performance and teamwork. Selected students will then qualify for the last round.

ROUND 3: FINALE
In this round, the best of the best will face off in an hour-long debate. Participants will be divided into two teams and will be randomly assigned an argument to pick in a toss. Both teams then get 20 minutes to gather their thoughts.

Further details regarding the particulars of the Finale will be revealed to the selected participants later on.
