EcoGen-Flashmob 2023
“We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last generation who can do something about it.” – Barack Obama.
As COP28, the 28th edition of the annual climate change conference held by the United Nations which is set to take place from the 30th of November to the 12th of December in the United Arab Emirates draws nearer, we the teachers and students of DPS Sharjah are doing our part to increase awareness about the same. On the 22nd of September 2023, a flash mob event hosted by the environment club of our school, EcoGen, was held in Mega Mall, Sharjah.
Many months in the making, this event was the first of its kind. The purpose of the initiative was to spread awareness about the omnipresent threat of climate change via flash mobs. There were performances by girls and boys of grades 10 and 11. They performed energetically on a mix of meaningful songs and foot tapping tracks. Arjun Yadav, the vice head boy of DPS Sharjah and the Head of Events of EcoGen addressed the crowd that had gathered in between the performances, highlighting the purpose of the event.
The EcoGen team, consisting of many teachers and students, worked tirelessly and the performers invested countless hours of practice to perfect every step which made this event a huge success. As Leonardo DiCaprio said, “Raising awareness on the most pressing environmental issues of our time is more important than ever”, and our school is working towards doing exactly that.
This is certainly not the only event to take place in this initiative, and you can expect more very soon!
