EXCLUSIVE EDITION OF TEACHERS CAP’23: CARBON AND GREENHOUSE GAS MITIGATION

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing educators’ understanding of climate change issues, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in collaboration with the EXPO School Programme, unveiled the first exclusive teachers’ edition of the Climate Ambassadors Programme (CAP’23) at EXPO CITY, Dubai, on November 10, 2023.

The CAP, originally launched in February 2023, seeks to immerse students in the complexities of global climate discussions and negotiations, drawing inspiration from the real-world scenarios witnessed at the Conference of the Parties (COP). The recently concluded teachers’ edition focused on simulating the proceedings of a United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP session, with a specific emphasis on the AGENDA – CARBON AND GREENHOUSE GAS MITIGATION.

The event comprised two sessions, each hosting 40 teachers. Prior to the simulation, participating educators were encouraged to conduct thorough research on the designated topics, recognizing their profound impacts on diverse nations and country blocs. This preparation played a pivotal role in fostering meaningful discussions and negotiations during the CAP session, particularly benefiting those teachers engaging in a debate-style session for the first time.

The teachers were actively involved in role-playing as representatives of various countries, mirroring the dynamics of a UNFCCC COP session. Ms. Anjum Hasan and Vandana Dhadwal proudly represented Delhi Private School Sharjah, adding a local touch to the global dialogue.

A key component of the CAP was the requirement for teachers to draft both the problems and solutions associated with the countries they represented. Several educators were further tasked with presenting these findings, offering a platform for the exchange of diverse perspectives and potential solutions.

The event not only served as an educational experience for the participating teachers but also underscored the importance of fostering a deeper understanding of climate-related challenges. As the international community approaches COP28, initiatives like the Teachers CAP’23 play a crucial role in equipping educators with the knowledge and skills needed to guide the next generation towards sustainable and climate-resilient futures.
