EARTH DAY CELEBRATION – 2024

“The earth will not continue to offer its harvest, except with faithful stewardship.”

Delhi Private School Sharjah actively engaged its students in celebrating Earth Day on April 22nd, 2024, with a variety of online activities. The theme resonated deeply, reminding everyone of our responsibility towards the planet. The day started with the pledge to protect the planet and emphasizing the need for sustainable practices.

The youngest Dipsites (Pre-KG to Grade 2) participated in age-appropriate activities designed to spark environmental awareness. This included planting saplings, creating artwork with recycled materials, and designing Earth Day posters. These engaging experiences instilled a sense of responsibility for protecting the environment in the minds of these young learners.

The students of Grades 3-5 showcased their creativity by developing an “ECO CODE” centered around climate change, clean air, and other environmental concerns. This project incorporated lists, drawings, poems, raps, and even a song, highlighting the importance of resource conservation. Students displayed their artistic talents with enthusiasm, and teachers emphasized the crucial role of tree planting and collective action in creating a healthier planet.

Grades 6-8 students delved deeper into the environmental challenges posed by microplastics and their impact. The highlight of their activities included an “Eco Code” competition, aligning with the UAE’s Environment Vision 2030. This session also incorporated a quiz and a pledge to promote green growth, water conservation, clean energy use, and improved air quality.

Students in Grades 9-12 actively participated in an Earth Day presentation followed by an online quiz. They also undertook the Environmental Review Quiz, a critical step towards achieving the prestigious “Green Flag” designation, signifying the school’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Furthermore, a photography competition based on the UAE Vision 2030’s strategic themes encouraged students to capture the essence of sustainability through their creative lens.

The Earth Day activities at DPS Sharjah mirrored the school’s unwavering commitment to sustainability. By engaging students in online activities and fostering environmental awareness, the school aims to cultivate responsible citizens who will actively contribute to a greener future.
