WORKSHOP AT CURTIN UNIVERSITY

On 26th June 2024, members of EcoGen from phase 4A and 4B attended a workshop hosted by Curtin University and conducted by Dubai municipality. The delegation consisted of 45 students and 3 teachers. The workshop shed light on the various protected areas in Dubai.

The session was kickstarted with an interactive quiz on the environmental initiatives of UAE. Ms. Safeya Abdulnoor Ahil, a Senior Educational and Awareness Officer from the Dubai Municipality, was the speak for the session.

During the workshop, the attendees gained knowledge of the difference types of protected areas in Dubai, their features and the role of the Dubai Municipality in taking care of them. Dubai Municipality plays a crucial role in the preservation and management of protected areas in Dubai. It is responsible for implementing regulations and initiatives that safeguard the emirate’s natural heritage, including wildlife reserves, coastal zones, and desert ecosystems. By enforcing strict environmental laws and promoting sustainable practices, Dubai Municipality ensures that these areas are conserved for future generations. The Municipality also undertakes restoration projects, monitors biodiversity, and fosters public awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship. This proactive approach helps balance Dubai’s rapid urbanization with the need to protect its unique natural landscapes and biodiversity.

In order to take another sustainable step, the fruitful session was ended by giving students Ghaf tree seed to plant at their home.
