Climate Ambassadors Program(CAP) 2023
On 17th May 2023, students from Delhi Private School Sharjah had the privilege of participating in the Climate Ambassadors Program (CAP) organized by the collaboration between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and the Expo Schools Programme. The program aimed to empower students to actively engage in finding solutions for the global climate crisis and prepare them to represent the roles of climate negotiators at COP28, scheduled to take place in Expo City Dubai.
The Climate Ambassadors Program commenced with an engaging activity where students were divided into different blocs of countries. Each bloc went into breakout rooms for a fifteen-minute discussion, facilitated by moderators. The students actively shared their knowledge and experiences, discussing how climate change is affecting the countries within their bloc. Following the breakout sessions, two presenters from each bloc came forward and presented their findings to the wider audience, shedding light on the specific challenges and vulnerabilities faced by their respective countries.
Following the presentations of each bloc, an unmoderated caucus took place for 25 minutes. During this session, the respective blocs formed two different action plans, capitalizing on the insights shared during the breakout discussions. The students engaged in intense deliberations, refining their proposals and determining the most effective course of action.
To conclude the program, both action plans were presented to the wider audience. Each bloc had the opportunity to present its plan, showcasing its innovative ideas and strategies for tackling climate change. Subsequently, a questioning session commenced where either of the blocs could question the action plan of the other bloc. This session fostered critical thinking and encouraged students to defend their proposals while considering alternative perspectives.
After the questioning round, one of the best action plans was selected through a voting process. The chosen action plan demonstrated a comprehensive and strategic approach to addressing climate change, integrating the ideas and perspectives of the participating students. This plan will serve as a roadmap for future initiatives and actions undertaken by the Climate Ambassadors.
The Climate Ambassadors Program provided a valuable platform for the students of Delhi Private School Sharjah to enhance their understanding of climate change issues and actively contribute to global climate action. Their participation in this program has undoubtedly instilled a sense of responsibility and empowerment in the students to become effective climate ambassadors in their communities.
