EARTH HOUR 2025

EARTH HOUR 2025

“Earth Hour reminds us that even small actions, when multiplied by millions, can transform our world.” — Al Gore

As darkness settled over the UAE on March 22, 2025, the DPS community came together in a powerful display of unity and purpose. From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., students and their families participated from their homes in the global Earth Hour initiative, switching off non-essential lights and embracing a shared commitment to sustainability. In that collective moment of darkness, stretching across countless households, we caught a glimpse of our potential as contributors to the UAE’s Vision 2030.

“Darkness for Light” was more than a slogan—it was a promise honored by every student, parent, and teacher who took part from their living rooms and balconies. As lights dimmed across the city, conversations around sustainability grew brighter, inspiring ideas that will help illuminate our future.

This year’s Earth Hour was especially meaningful as it aligned with the UAE’s declaration of 2025 as the Year of Community. Across dining tables and in living rooms—while reading together or playing board games—students explored the principles of the three Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle. These were not treated as classroom lessons, but as shared family commitments.

The UAE’s Vision 2030 acknowledges that lasting sustainability extends beyond institutions; it begins at home, with families prepared to champion environmental responsibility. At DPS Sharjah, we are nurturing these future-ready families.

In those sixty minutes of shared darkness, spread across homes throughout the city, we envisioned our brightest future yet—one where DPS Sharjah families lead the way toward a sustainable tomorrow, grounded in strong community values and aligned with the aspirations of Vision 2030.
